In addition to being selected by clients, Nusinov Smith is a trusted fiduciary approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs (the “VA”). In 1865, President Lincoln wrote the following charge to all Americans,
"To Care for Him Who Shall Have Borne the Battle and for His Widow, and his Orphan."
The VA's Fiduciary Program was established to protect Veterans, and other beneficiaries of its programs, who, due to injury, disease, or due to age, are unable to manage their financial affairs. For decades, Nusinov Smith has served as a trusted fiduciary approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Pursuant to the statutory authority granted to the Secretary under 38 U.S.C. § 5502, Nusinov Smith has regularly been appointed to receive VA benefits in a fiduciary capacity for beneficiaries who are mentally ill or under a legal disability. As federal fiduciaries appointed by the VA, Nusinov Smith ensures that VA benefits are used for the well-being of disabled veterans and their dependents, which often include the spouses and children, and reports regularly to the VA, managing tens of millions of dollars in federal benefits.
